Filmmaker Michael Showalter will direct a new version of the romantic film ‘Serendipity’ for Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax.
According to a PTI report from Los Angeles today, Marc Klein, who wrote the original ‘Serendipity’, will also write the script for the new film. Showalter and Jordana Mollick will produce the project, along with Simon Fields, who produced the original movie.
The original 2001 film was directed by Peter Chelsom and starred John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. It tells the story of Jonathan and Sara, two strangers who meet by chance at a department store in New York.
The two quickly develop feelings for each other but decide not to exchange their phone numbers. They leave their future relationship to fate and hope they will meet again someday.The new film will be a modern take on the original love story. Further details about the cast and release date have not yet been announced.
