One of Indian television’s most iconic mythological shows, ‘Ramayan’, is set to return to the small screen once again. Created and directed by Ramanand Sagar, the legendary series will begin airing from July 6, bringing back a story that has remained deeply embedded in the country’s cultural and spiritual consciousness for nearly four decades.
According to UNI report, the classic series will be telecast on Sony Pal as part of the channel’s lineup of spiritual and family-oriented programming. The move follows the success of other devotional shows on the channel and is aimed at offering viewers meaningful entertainment rooted in Indian traditions and values.
First aired in 1987, ‘Ramayan’ became a television phenomenon, attracting millions of viewers across the country. The 78-episode saga chronicled the life and journey of Lord Ram, highlighting values such as duty, sacrifice, compassion, courage and righteousness. The performances of Arun Govil as Lord Ram, Dipika Chikhlia as Sita, Sunil Lahri as Lakshman and Dara Singh as Hanuman became iconic and continue to be remembered by audiences even today.
The series has enjoyed enduring popularity over the years and has been re-telecast multiple times. During the nationwide lockdown in 2020, its return to television shattered viewership records and introduced a new generation to the epic tale. The show’s continued appeal is often attributed to its simple storytelling, strong moral values and emotional connection with viewers.
A spokesperson for Sony Pal said that ‘Ramayan’ is much more than a television serial and remains an integral part of India’s collective memory and faith. The spokesperson added that the timeless story continues to inspire audiences across generations and aligns with the channel’s commitment to providing meaningful family entertainment.
Based on the ancient Indian epic ‘Ramayana’ and inspired by texts such as the ‘Ramcharitmanas’, the series follows Lord Ram’s journey from Ayodhya to exile, his battle against evil and his eventual triumph over Ravana. Over the years, the show has been credited with bringing mythology into millions of homes and setting a benchmark for mythological storytelling on Indian television.
With its return beginning July 6, ‘Ramayan’ is expected to once again attract audiences seeking nostalgia, spiritual content and timeless storytelling, reaffirming its status as one of the most influential television shows ever produced in India.
