Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming limited series ‘Enigma Variations’, adding another major name to the adaptation of acclaimed author Andre Aciman’s bestselling novel.
The series will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role of Paul, while Vikander will portray Claire, one of the character’s most significant love interests. The casting marks a high-profile collaboration between the two actors in what is expected to be one of Netflix’s notable literary adaptations, PTI reported.
Based on Aciman’s celebrated novel, ‘Enigma Variations’ explores themes of love, desire, identity and longing through different stages of its protagonist’s life. The story follows Paul as he navigates complex relationships and emotional connections, reflecting on the nature of attraction and the enduring impact of love.
The adaptation is being written by Amanda Kate Shuman, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. The project will be directed by Oliver Hermanus, known for critically acclaimed films such as Living and Moffie.
Vikander’s addition to the cast is expected to generate further interest in the series, given her reputation for delivering nuanced performances across both independent and mainstream productions. The actress won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl and has since starred in projects including Ex Machina, Tomb Raider and Firebrand.
Taylor-Johnson, meanwhile, continues to build a diverse portfolio of roles following performances in films such as Bullet Train, Nocturnal Animals and Kraven the Hunter.
With a bestselling source novel, an acclaimed creative team and a star-studded cast, ‘Enigma Variations’ is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated limited series projects. Further casting details and a release timeline are yet to be announced.
