ZEE5 is set to expand its Tamil content slate with the launch of ‘Mammatiyaan Stars’, a six-episode original sports drama that celebrates the passion, emotions, and unwavering devotion of cricket fans. The Tamil series will premiere exclusively on the streaming platform on June 26.
Directed by Savir Sudhakar and produced by Singaravelan under the SS Group banner, ‘Mammatiyaan Stars’ explores the unique bond between cricket and its followers, presenting a heartfelt story rooted in friendship, dreams, and community spirit. The series has been written by Savir Sudhakar, Naveen Rajkumar, Kalai Selvan, and Vinu Karthikeyan.
The show is designed as a tribute to the countless fans who go to extraordinary lengths to support their cricketing heroes. Set against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu’s vibrant cricket culture, the series captures the excitement and emotional connection that the sport creates across generations.
The story follows a group of enthusiastic cricket fans from a small village who set out on a journey to Chennai to watch their idol play what is believed to be his final match. What begins as a dream outing soon evolves into an unforgettable adventure filled with challenges, unexpected twists, and emotional moments. Along the way, the group discovers that the experiences they share together become just as meaningful as the destination itself.
The series stars Vaibhav Murugesan, Lavanya Anbazhagan, Venkeda Balamurali, Jagabar Sathik, Naan Kadavul Rajendran, and Vivek Prasanna in key roles. With cinematography by PM Rajkumar, editing by Pavithran, and art direction by Tamilselvan BFA, the show aims to authentically portray the energy and camaraderie associated with cricket fandom.
Speaking about the launch, Lloyd Xavier, Senior Vice President – Marketing South and Business Head – ZEE5 Tamil and Malayalam, said cricket in India is far more than a sport and continues to connect people through shared memories and emotions. He noted that ‘Mammatiyaan Stars’ captures the passion of fans and their determination to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime sporting moment.
Xavier added that the series is built around relatable characters and genuine emotions, making it a story that audiences across Tamil Nadu and beyond can connect with.
Director Savir Sudhakar described the project as a tribute to every cricket fan who has ever dreamed of watching their heroes perform live. While cricket serves as the backdrop, he said the heart of the story lies in friendship, aspirations, and the life-changing experiences that emerge during the journey.
He added that the creators wanted to craft a story that feels honest, emotional, and celebratory while highlighting the universal appeal of dreams and companionship.
With cricket at its core and themes of friendship, hope, and perseverance driving the narrative, ‘Mammatiyaan Stars’ seeks to offer viewers a blend of sports drama and emotional storytelling. As the countdown to its premiere begins, the series promises to deliver a relatable and uplifting tale that reflects the enduring love for cricket in India.
