ZEE5 Malayalam is set to premiere the Malayalam film ‘Nellikkampoyil Night Riders’ digitally from February 6, bringing audiences a genre-blending tale that combines mystery, humour and elements of the supernatural.
The film invites viewers into the atmospheric village of Nellikkampoyil, where folklore, fear and youthful ambition collide over the course of one unpredictable night.
According to a press release, the film marks the directorial debut of Noufal Abdullah, who has also edited the project. Released theatrically in 2025, ‘Nellikkampoyil Night Riders’ is a horror-comedy that draws from local myths and village legends, weaving them into a contemporary story rooted in friendship and courage.
The film stars Mathew Thomas as Shyam, a spirited young man whose everyday life is disrupted when strange and unsettling events begin to unfold in Nellikkampoyil. As rumours and fear spread through the village, Shyam and his friends are forced to confront not just the unknown forces around them, but also their own insecurities and limits. What begins as youthful bravado gradually turns into a test of resilience and belief.
The ensemble cast includes Roshan Shanavas, Sarath Sabha, Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, Merin Philip, Vishnu Agasthya, Rony David and Abu Salim, among others. Together, they add humour, warmth and emotional depth to a narrative that balances light-hearted moments with an undercurrent of suspense and unease.
Speaking about the film, Mathew Thomas said that what resonated most with him was the way the story blends the ordinary with the extraordinary. He noted that the film goes beyond fear, exploring how people respond when faced with situations that challenge their sense of normalcy, and expressed happiness that audiences will now be able to experience the story on ZEE5 from February 6.
Roshan Shanavas echoed the sentiment, sharing that the film’s appeal lies in its refusal to be confined to a single genre. With elements of friendship, humour and mystery coming together over the course of one night, he said it was exciting to be part of a story that will now reach viewers across Kerala and beyond through its digital release.
Set against the richly imagined backdrop of Nellikkampoyil, where age-old myths continue to influence everyday life, ‘Nellikkampoyil Night Riders’ stands out for its youthful energy and genre-mixing approach. With its digital premiere on ZEE5 Malayalam, the film promises a fresh viewing experience for audiences who enjoy stories that blend folklore, fear and fun in equal measure.
