Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the formal names and executive leadership for the two companies it will split into—Warner Bros. and Discovery Global. This strategic decision aims to streamline operations and better serve audiences across entertainment, sports, and news.
Warner Bros. will encompass Streaming & Studios, housing powerhouse brands such as Warner Bros. Television, Motion Picture Group, HBO, HBO Max, DC Studios, and Warner Bros. Gaming Studios. The company name is a nod to its century-long legacy of storytelling.
David Zaslav, current President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, will continue his leadership at Warner Bros., supported by industry veterans like Casey Bloys (HBO), James Gunn and Peter Safran (DC Studios), and Channing Dungey (TV Group). The company is currently searching for a Chief Financial Officer and Chief People & Culture Officer.
Meanwhile, the Global Networks division will rebrand as Discovery Global, focusing on international content distribution including CNN, Discovery Channel, TNT Sports, and the Discovery+ streaming service. The platform reaches over 1.1 billion viewers in 68 languages across 200 territories.
Gunnar Wiedenfels, Warner Bros. Discovery’s current CFO, will step in as President and CEO of Discovery Global. His leadership team includes CNN chief Mark Thompson, TNT Sports CEO Luis Silberwasser, and several other global heads in tech, sales, content, and strategy.
Zaslav expressed pride in carrying the Warner Bros. legacy forward. “With our unmatched storytelling IP and bold leadership team, we’re in a strong position to launch and grow a company worthy of our storied past,” he said.
Wiedenfels added, “The launch of Discovery Global is a pivotal moment. With beloved brands and a global footprint, our leadership team is ready to deliver strategic content and operational excellence to a worldwide audience.”
This separation marks one of the most significant restructures in the media landscape in recent years, reinforcing both companies’ focus on core strengths—scripted and franchise content on one side, and global networks and live programming on the other.
