Streaming platform ZEE5 yesterday announced the world digital premiere of Vineet Kumar Singh’s ‘Siya’ on June 16.
Manish Mundra, known for supporting films such as ‘Newton’, ‘Masaan’, ‘Ankhon Dekhi’, and ‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’, directed the social drama film, which was released in theatres last year.
Singh expressed excitement about the film’s digital premiere. “I agreed to be a part of this film because I believed in the story and the message it conveyed.” ‘Siya’ contains scenes that almost mirror the terrorising society at large, and I hoped that this film would serve as a wake-up call for many.
“Even though it was released in theatres, many people haven’t heard of or seen this film. It is my sincere request that they watch it on ZEE5 because it is an important story that needs to be told and seen,” the actor said in a statement.
The film, which also stars debutant actor Pooja Pandey, tells the story of Siya, a small-town girl who, despite all odds, decides to take down patriarchy and fight for justice after being kidnapped and raped.
Mundra, who also produced the film through his Drishyam Films banner, expressed his gratitude to ZEE5.
“Content-driven cinema has been the essence of Drishyam. We are glad to have partnered with ZEE5 who’s equally passionate about such content. Siya’s journey is that of a fighter who takes it upon herself to right the wrong done to her,” he said.
Manish Kalra, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 India said, they are proud to present the film to its audience.
“This hard-hitting film is a reflection of the society we live in, and it deserves every bit of our attention. We hope that the film delivers not only performance-wise but also in its endeavor to spark a change in people’s mindset and outlook,” Kalra said.
Mundra won the best debut director award for ‘Siya’ at the UK Asian Film Festival 2023.
