Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal is officially stepping into Hollywood with his debut role in ‘Street Fighter’, a big-screen adaptation of the iconic video game franchise from studio Legendary. Known for his high-octane stunts and martial arts expertise in films like ‘Commando’, ‘Khuda Hafiz’, and ‘Baadshaho’, Jammwal joins an ensemble cast that promises global action and cinematic power.
According to PTI, the 44-year-old Indian actor will share screen space with Andrew Koji (‘Warrior’), Noah Centineo (‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’), Jason Momoa (‘Aquaman’), Callina Liang, Roman Reigns (WWE), Orville Peck, Cody Rhodes, comedian Andrew Schulz, rapper Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, and David Dastmalchian (‘The Suicide Squa’).
The ‘Street Fighter’ franchise originated as an arcade game by Japanese developer Capcom in 1987 and exploded into global popularity with 1991’s ‘Street Fighter II’, setting the benchmark for competitive one-on-one fighting games. Over the decades, it has become a pop culture phenomenon, spawning spin-offs, merchandise and previous film adaptations, including the 1994 cult film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
This new adaptation marks a fresh take by Legendary Entertainment, aiming to appeal to both long-time fans of the game and a new generation of viewers. While details about the film’s plot and Vidyut’s specific role remain under wraps, the inclusion of the Indian action star signals a global vision for the movie and adds significant martial arts credibility to the cast.
Jammwal, who has trained in Kalaripayattu since the age of three and built a solid reputation as India’s premier action hero, now takes his signature style to an international platform.
The film is currently in development and is expected to go on floors later this year.
