Actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon have lent their voices to the Hindi version of horror film ‘Obsession’, which will premiere on JioHotstar on October 30 alongside the original English version.
The film, directed by Curry Barker, will stream on the platform’s Peacock Hub in both languages, a PTI report yesterday said.
The horror film, reportedly made on a budget of around $750,000, emerged as a global box office success, grossing more than $500 million worldwide.
Alok Jain, head of Hindi and English entertainment business at JioStar, said, “Great stories have the power to resonate with audiences, far beyond the languages they are told in or the geographies they belong to.”
Pointing out that Sanon and Dhawan were selected for their versatility and familiarity with the horror genre, Jain added, “Kriti and Varun bring a strong cross-generational appeal to the table. They have established themselves as versatile actors across genres.
“Their familiarity in the horror genre, combined with their ability to bring the right emotion and nuance to their characters, makes them a great fit for the Hindi version.”
Both the stars featured in a Hindi horror-comedy film called ‘Bhediya’ whose sequel could be in the making, if rumour mills are to be believed.
The Hindi version features Sanon as Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette in the original, while Varun voices Bear, portrayed by Michael Johnston.
“I absolutely loved the film and the performances in ‘Obsession’. It’s such a gripping, quirky and twisted story. I’ve never explored a character this edgy before, which made the experience even more exciting and challenging,” Sanon quipped.
She also revealed that she had never before dubbed for another actor’s performance earlier.
“I had a lot of fun voicing for it, and I can’t wait for the audiences to experience the film in Hindi,” she said.
Varun described working on the Hindi version of ‘Obsession’ as an opportunity to experience the story from a completely different perspective.
“In fact, I found myself enjoying the film even more because I could look at it so closely,” he said.
‘Obsession’, an indie and unlikely box-office triumph, follows Bear, a shy young man who turns to a mysterious object called the One Wish Willow in the hope of making his longtime crush, Nikki, fall in love with him.
However, what begins as a wish for romance soon turns into a nightmare when Nikki develops a dangerous obsession with him.
