Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced that the film ‘Krishnavataram’ has been declared tax-free in the state after attending a special screening of the movie at the Lok Bhavan auditorium in Lucknow.
According to a PTI report, the screening was organised following the expansion of the Uttar Pradesh cabinet earlier in the day. The event witnessed the presence of several senior leaders and dignitaries including Governor Anandiben Patel, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, cabinet ministers, BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary and other public representatives.
The official statement said the atmosphere inside the auditorium turned devotional during the screening, with chants of ‘Krishna-Krishna’ and ‘Radhe-Radhe’ echoing across the venue. The film, centred around themes associated with Lord Krishna, appeared to receive an emotional response from the audience present at the screening.
Following the announcement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also congratulated the artistes and members associated with the film on stage. The decision to make the film tax-free is expected to boost its reach among audiences across Uttar Pradesh.
Tax exemptions for films based on cultural, religious or socially relevant themes have often been announced by state governments to encourage wider public viewership. With the latest move, ‘Krishnavataram’ joins the list of films that have received tax-free status in Uttar Pradesh in recent years.
