Actor and host Rajeev Khandelwal addressed the issue of gender bias and strongly voiced support for the girl child during a recent episode of ‘Tum Ho Naa – Ghar Ki Superstar’. The emotional conversation unfolded during his interaction with contestant Foram Ramani, where discussions around societal pressure and discrimination against girls struck a chord with viewers.
According to a press release, the moment came when Rajeev asked Foram about her feelings when her child was born. Sharing her experience from a small village background, Foram explained that while parents see sons and daughters equally, society often continues to differentiate between the two. She revealed that people around them still question whether a child is a boy or a girl, exposing how deeply rooted such mindsets remain in certain sections of society.
Reacting to her statement, Rajeev appeared visibly surprised and questioned whether such thinking still exists today. The conversation soon moved towards the larger issue of how women’s capabilities are often underestimated despite their achievements across sectors.
Foram referred to Operation Sindoor and pointed out how women played a major role in the operation, but many people in her village still struggle to accept that women are capable of excelling in areas traditionally dominated by men. Supporting her viewpoint, Rajeev strongly responded that women are not only capable but are ahead of men in many fields today.
The discussion turned more emotional when Foram admitted that she felt relieved to have given birth to a boy because it saved her from facing social pressure and judgment from people around her. Rajeev described the situation as unfortunate and said it is disappointing that even in a rapidly changing India, some people still continue to prefer sons over daughters.
However, he ended the conversation on a hopeful note, expressing confidence that India’s changing social landscape will eventually help transform such outdated mindsets.
The heartfelt exchange has drawn attention for highlighting a sensitive yet relevant social issue on mainstream television. Through the conversation, Rajeev Khandelwal used the platform to deliver a message centred on equality, progress and respect for the girl child.
‘Tum Ho Naa – Ghar Ki Superstar’ airs Monday to Friday at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
