In a heartfelt tribute to the guardians of public health, TV9 Bangla is all set to broadcast the fifth edition of its prestigious ‘Suswasthya Health Awards & Conclave’ on Sunday, July 13, at 11.30 am. The annual initiative salutes the doctors, researchers, and healthcare workers of Bengal whose silent dedication continues to uplift and transform lives.
As per an official press release by TV9 Bangla, this year’s conclave and awards ceremony took a step beyond merely recognising excellence in clinical practice. It brought into spotlight pathbreakers in medical research, innovators in healthcare, and storytellers who’ve contributed to public health awareness through creative mediums.
Inaugurated by Amritanshu Bhattacharya, Managing Editor & Business Head, TV9 Bangla; Anirban Choudhury, Consulting Editor, TV9 Bangla; and veteran medical expert Dr. (Prof) Sukumar Mukherjee, the event set the tone for a day of honouring Bengal’s finest in the health ecosystem.
Among the most revered recognitions of the evening were the ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’, conferred upon two doyens of medicine — Dr. Indra Sekhar Roy, a legendary figure in Ophthalmology, and Dr. Subrata Malakar, a trailblazer in Dermatology. The event also honoured Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director of IIT Kharagpur, for his invaluable contributions to research and innovation in medical science.
TV9 Bangla also introduced two poignant award categories in memory of pioneering figures — Dr. Subhas Mukhopadhyay, known for India’s first test-tube baby, and Dr. Kadambini Ganguly, the country’s first female doctor. The Dr. Subhas Mukhopadhyay Memorial Honour was awarded to Dr. Subhankar Chowdhury for his service in endocrinology and public health, while the Dr. Kadambini Ganguly Memorial Honour went to Dr. Geeta Ganguly Mukherjee for her lifelong dedication to women’s healthcare.
The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Calcutta Medical College was also felicitated for bridging the natural and medical aspects of childbirth, reinforcing the trust between patients and healthcare systems. Esteemed names such as Dr. Kousik Lahiri and Dr. Debashish Bhattacharya were also recognised during the ceremony.
The event paid tribute to unsung heroes too — including Dr. Tapas Kumar Das, Dr. Samarendranath Roy, and nurse Dolly Biswas — for their quiet, steadfast service in patient care.
In a unique cross-disciplinary gesture, TV9 Bangla also honoured individuals who have promoted healthcare awareness through films and the arts. Filmmaker Kamaleshwar Mukherjee and actor Kaushik Ghosh received accolades for their impactful contributions in using storytelling to create public consciousness around health and wellbeing.
The programme, though grounded in recognition, also featured moments of light and celebration with performances by healthcare professionals themselves, bringing a touch of joy and entertainment to the solemn proceedings.
Suswasthya Health Awards & Conclave 2025 reflects TV9 Bangla’s continued commitment to honouring the unseen, unspoken efforts of Bengal’s medical community. The special programme can be watched on Sunday, July 13, from 11.30 am only on TV9 Bangla.
