Caller identification application Truecaller has unveiled its latest feature, ‘Truecaller Assistant’, which leverages artificial intelligence to handle incoming calls on behalf of users.
This virtual assistant operates in Hindi, English, and ‘Hinglish’, catering to Indian users. Serving as an interactive answering machine, users can activate the assistant and call forwarding, enabling the assistant to respond to calls. Meanwhile, users can monitor live transcripts of conversations within the app.
Originally launched as ‘Call Hero’ by a separate company, which was later acquired by Truecaller, this feature’s functionalities have been integrated into Truecaller’s platform and rebranded as Truecaller Assistant. The initial rollout took place in the United States, and it has since been extended to various markets, the Economic Times reported.
The primary objective of this feature is to alleviate the inconvenience of responding to potential spam calls. Users have the flexibility to take over the call midway if it’s an important conversation or if they prefer to answer it themselves. Currently accessible on Android devices in India, the feature is expected to expand to iOS devices in the coming months, along with the addition of more languages.
