Acclaimed filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s much-anticipated political drama ‘The Bengal Files’ had its grand premiere in New Jersey, USA, drawing strong emotional reactions from the audience during its first screening.
The film, which has already created significant buzz after the release of its teaser, managed to leave the viewers visibly moved, many seen in tears and deep thought after the show.
A PTI report stated that the premiere witnessed a packed house and engaged audience, who responded with palpable emotion to the film’s portrayal of the lesser-known events surrounding “Direct Action Day” in Bengal. The narrative appears to draw a parallel with the filmmaker’s earlier work The Kashmir Files, raising the provocative question — is Bengal becoming another Kashmir?
Taking to his social media platform, director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri posted snippets from the screening, showing the audience’s teary reactions and long applause. He captioned the post: “Audience reactions after the first-ever screening of the untold story of Hindu genocide #TheBengalFiles in New Jersey.”
‘The Bengal Files’ is written and directed by Agnihotri himself and features a stellar ensemble cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar. The film is jointly produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi under the banners of Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha.
Positioned as the final installment in Agnihotri’s impactful ‘Files trilogy’, which includes The Tashkent Files and the widely discussed ‘The Kashmir Files’, the film promises to explore another dark and rarely spoken chapter of Indian history.
Slated for a theatrical release on September 5, ‘The Bengal Files’ is already being discussed as one of the most anticipated political dramas of the year, with the premiere setting the tone for a compelling and possibly controversial run ahead.
