As ideas of luxury continue to shift in an age shaped by technology, conscious choices and evolving lifestyles, Network18’s Innovate & Evolve — powered by Liebherr — is driving a national conversation on how innovation and design are redefining modern living in India.
The latest Privé edition brought together leading voices from the world of design to explore how refined, future-forward living is now rooted in intelligence, purpose and emotional connection.
According to a press release, designer and entrepreneur Sussanne Khan spoke about how the meaning of luxury has transformed far beyond opulence or excess. She said design today must integrate technology with human warmth, natural materials and mindful creation to build spaces that are both functional and soulful.
“Design has been part of my world from the very beginning. I was taught that luxury has nothing to do with money and everything to do with warmth, beauty, and intention,” Khan said. Speaking about The Charcoal Project, she noted that her approach has always been about crafting narratives rather than merely creating furniture. “Today, modern luxury is the meeting point of technology and emotion. A home must have both a heart and a brain. While people want smart automation, they are also searching for nature, rare materials, artisanal detail, and spaces that feel soulful,” she added.
Khan also underlined that sustainability is no longer an optional value but a fundamental responsibility for designers. “From reworking industrial waste into new forms to supporting local artisans and exploring new eco-materials, sustainability is non-negotiable. As creators, our strength lies in staying curious. The moment we think we know everything, we stop evolving,” she said.
Jewellery designer Farah Ali Khan, who also spoke at the event, reflected on her own creative path, describing how she drifted from interior design to filmmaking before eventually discovering her passion in gemology and jewellery design. “I went just to have fun — I wanted to party in America — but ended up becoming the Indian nerd who fell in love with the science of gemstones. I even topped my class,” she shared.
Talking about her design philosophy, she said, “For me, design isn’t just about how something looks; it has to serve a purpose. As Steve Jobs said, design is function, not self-expression. My work blends modern technology with traditional craftsmanship at its core.”
With Innovate & Evolve, Network18 continues to explore how innovation, design excellence and conscious thinking are shaping the future of sophisticated living in India. The conversations make it clear that luxury today is defined less by extravagance and more by meaning, intention and the intelligence to evolve.
