Bengali film ‘Lokkhi Chhele’ was released in theatres last year, in August 2022, homegrown streaming giant SonyLIV has grabbed the streaming rights for ‘Lokkhi Chhele’.
The Bengali social drama film ‘Lokkhi Chhele’ will premiere on SonyLIV on 8th September, 2023.
The acclaimed social drama film received applause from both audiences and critics, who praised its hard-hitting premise, stellar direction, and accomplished performances. The film did decent business at the box office, though it wasn’t a blockbuster success by any standard.
‘Lokkhi Chhele’, directed by Kaushik Ganguly and based on a true story, revolves around a newborn baby with four arms.
The film, which has an IMDB rating of 8/10, delves into the shackles of human superstition and the profound influence of human beliefs, offering a thought-provoking tale set in rural settings with global appeal. It features pivotal performances by Ujaan Ganguly, Aditi Marik, Ritwika Pal, and Purab Seal Acharya.
Commenting on the film, National Award-winning filmmaker, Kaushik Ganguly said, “Lokkhi Chhele is an important and special film for me. The story germinated in my mind when I read about the eight-limbed girl, Lakshmi Tatma, from Bihar, and accounts of other children who have fallen prey to superstitions. The film aims to address and question the blind faith that is plaguing our society at its core.
“Audiences and critics alike have showered a lot of love and appreciation for the film and now, I am truly excited about its digital premiere on Sony LIV. With the growing popularity and reach of OTT platforms, I couldn’t have asked for a better stage than Sony LIV for Lokkhi Chhele. It is a tale waiting to be told to a global audience, and retold to the millions whose souls we were able to touch during its long run in the threats and international festivals,” Ganguly added.
Produced by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee under the banner of Windows Production, the film boasts a stellar performance by Ujaan Ganguly, Aditi Marik, Ritwika Pal, and Purab Seal Acharya in pivotal roles.
