Sony LIV has partnered with Crunchyroll to launch Crunchyroll as an add-on subscription within the Sony LIV ecosystem, strengthening its content portfolio and expanding its reach among India’s rapidly growing anime audience.
Under the collaboration, Sony LIV subscribers will now be able to access Crunchyroll directly through the platform at an additional subscription cost of Rs.99 per month. The integration brings more than 900 anime titles and 160 shows to users, including content dubbed in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other languages, making anime more accessible to regional audiences across India.
As part of the rollout, Sony LIV users will also get limited-time access to a curated selection of anime titles without requiring a separate Crunchyroll subscription. The move is aimed at introducing mainstream audiences to anime content before encouraging full subscriptions to the anime-focused streaming service.
Crunchyroll has also introduced a promotional offer for Sony LIV users, allowing viewers to subscribe to the Monthly Fan Tier at Rs.49 instead of Rs.99 for a limited two-week period between May 7 and May 21, 2026. Subscribers opting for the offer will continue to receive the discounted renewal pricing for the following six months.
Terry Li said India remains one of the fastest-growing anime markets globally and described the partnership with Sony LIV as an important step toward expanding anime accessibility in the country. He added that integrating Crunchyroll’s library into the Sony LIV ecosystem would help both existing and new fans discover popular anime stories and characters more easily.
Nachiket Pantvaidya said the collaboration aligns with Sony LIV’s broader growth strategy by helping the platform connect with a younger and highly engaged audience segment. He noted that the addition of Crunchyroll’s catalogue strengthens Sony LIV’s positioning as a destination for premium international and genre-based entertainment.
According to a 2025 study commissioned by Crunchyroll and conducted by the National Research Group, anime fandom in India continues to witness strong momentum, especially among younger viewers. The report found that 62 percent of entertainment consumers surveyed in India either “like” or “love” anime, while the number rises to 74 percent among teenagers, making Gen Z the most engaged audience group for the category.
The study also highlighted anime’s growing influence on youth culture, identity, and digital entertainment consumption patterns globally, positioning the genre as a significant part of mainstream pop culture.
Owned by Sony Pictures Networks India, Sony LIV currently offers more than 40,000 hours of content and has crossed 100 million app downloads, with the latest Crunchyroll integration expected to further diversify its premium streaming offering in India.
