Fans of the beloved Japanese character Shinchan are in for a treat as ‘Shinchan – The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers in India’ will have its Indian premiere on September 14, 2025, at the Japan Film Festival during Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!. The special screening will be attended by director Masakazu Hashimoto and the iconic character Shinchan himself, offering fans a rare opportunity to celebrate the film together.
According to a press release, the film is produced by Shin-Ei Animation, TV Asahi, ADK Emotions, and Futabasha, with animation production by Shin-Ei Animation. Set against the colorful backdrop of India, the story follows Shinchan and his friends as they travel to the “nation of dance” to participate in a vibrant entertainment festival. Along the way, they enjoy Indian food, greet everyone with “Namaste,” and face an unusual challenge when Bo chan is mysteriously transformed, forcing the Kasukabe Guard to rally together in a heartwarming and humorous adventure.
The film will release nationwide across India on September 26, 2025, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Excitement for the release is already running high, especially after the movie’s strong showing at Anime India, where it won two prestigious ANN Awards – Best International Animated Feature Film and Best Animated Licensed Character (International).
Director Masakazu Hashimoto, who first visited India for location scouting nearly two years ago, expressed his excitement about returning for the premiere. “The incredible sights and wonderful people of India inspired this story. I’m absolutely thrilled that the film, packed with those experiences, is finally coming to India,” he said.
Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR INOX Pictures, called Shinchan “a beloved character in countless Indian homes for the last two decades,” adding that the film’s vibrant depiction of Indian culture makes it particularly special. The Japan Foundation and organizers of Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!! also congratulated TV Asahi on bringing the movie to Indian screens, highlighting its cultural significance.
With its mix of humor, cultural exchange, music, and dance, ‘Shinchan – The Spicy Kasukabe’ Dancers in India is set to be one of the biggest highlights of this year’s Japanese Film Festival. The premiere marks not just another adventure for Shinchan, but a celebration of India–Japan cultural ties that continue to grow stronger with every passing year.
