Comedian Samay Raina has hinted at the return of his controversial show ‘India’s Got Latent’ with a possible second season, even as he addressed the backlash and criticism surrounding the original in his latest stand-up special ‘Still Alive’.
According to PTI, Raina used the special as a platform to reflect on the controversy that erupted last year, making it clear that the experience has not deterred him from continuing his creative journey. The developments come in the wake of widespread outrage triggered by a joke made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia during one of the show’s episodes.
The controversy, which broke out in February last year, led to multiple FIRs being filed against Raina and other comedians who were part of the panel. The situation escalated quickly, drawing nationwide attention and intense scrutiny over the content and boundaries of comedy in the digital space. In response to the backlash, Raina eventually took down the entire show from YouTube.
In ‘Still Alive’, the comedian revisits that phase candidly, weaving in references to George Orwell while also speaking about his Kashmiri Pandit heritage. Through humour and introspection, he reflects on the personal and professional impact of the controversy, while subtly indicating a fresh start with ‘India’s Got Latent 2’.
While no official announcement has been made regarding the release or format of the second season, Raina’s remarks suggest that he is ready to revisit the format with a renewed perspective. The mention of a comeback has already sparked curiosity among audiences, especially given the polarising response the first season received.
The original show had gained traction for its edgy and unfiltered humour, but also faced criticism for pushing boundaries that many viewers found contentious.
