‘Saali Mohabbat’ emerges as one of ZEE5’s most talked-about films of 2025

ZEE5’s 2025 slate has found a strong talking point in ‘Saali Mohabbat’, a film that blends suspense, psychological tension and emotional drama into a gripping narrative.

The film has been drawing attention for its layered storytelling, strong performances and its ability to engage viewers while quietly challenging their beliefs about trust, relationships and identity.

According to an ANI report, ‘Saali Mohabbat’ takes audiences into a world shaped by betrayal, double lives and shifting relationships. What begins as a seemingly ordinary story soon transforms into an intense psychological thriller, holding viewers’ attention through its polished direction, striking visuals and a narrative that unfolds with measured restraint rather than dramatic excess.

The story centres on Smita, played by Radhika Apte, a woman living a quiet life in the small town of Fursatgarh. Her world is shattered after the brutal double murder of her husband and cousin, an incident that turns her into the prime suspect. As suspicion closes in, Smita’s life spirals into uncertainty, and the film gradually peels back layers of the past to reveal how earlier choices shape present consequences. The shift from domestic drama to psychological suspense is handled with care, creating emotional pressure that builds steadily as hidden truths begin to surface.

The film’s strength lies significantly in its performances. Radhika Apte anchors the narrative with a restrained yet powerful portrayal of a woman masking fear, grief and resilience beneath a calm exterior. Divyenndu Sharma, as Ratan Pandit, adds complexity and moral ambiguity to the story, intensifying the tension with his nuanced presence. Anurag Kashyap’s role as Gajendra Bhaiya further deepens the narrative, bringing unpredictability and emotional weight to the unfolding events.

The supporting cast, including Anshumaan Pushkar, Sauraseni Maitra, Sharat Saxena, Mita Vashisht and Sweta Basu Prasad, adds texture and credibility, making the characters’ fears and motivations feel authentic.

Directed by Tisca Chopra, ‘Saali Mohabbat’ marks a confident and sensitive directorial effort. Chopra crafts a world where silence often speaks louder than dialogue, allowing suspicion and unease to creep in gradually. Her handling of delicate emotional moments and internal conflicts reflects a strong command over tone, ensuring that the psychological tension remains grounded and believable.

Cinematographer Vidushi Tiwari enhances the film’s mood through tightly framed shots, dimly lit interiors and muted colour palettes. Narrow corridors, shadow-filled corners and quiet townscapes mirror the emotional state of the characters, lending the film a sense of realism that makes its psychological dread all the more compelling.

At its core, ‘Saali Mohabbat’ explores themes of betrayal, trust and survival, particularly through a female perspective that is rarely given such depth. The film examines how fragile everyday life can become when doubt enters relationships, forcing both characters and viewers to question what they believe to be true.

With its strategic release on ZEE5, ‘Saali Mohabbat’ has positioned itself as one of the most discussed films of 2025. It is a film that does not rely on spectacle, but instead builds tension through subtlety, emotional depth and moral complexity. For viewers seeking a story that is as unsettling as it is engaging, ‘Saali Mohabbat’ offers a compelling watch that lingers long after the credits roll.
