ZEE5 has appointed Rusa Banerjee as the new Business Head – Bangla, signalling the platform’s renewed focus on bolstering its regional content play, particularly in the competitive Bengali entertainment space. In her new role, Banerjee will be responsible for spearheading content, marketing, and revenue strategies for the Bangla vertical. She will be based in Kolkata and report to Mansi Shrivastav, Chief Business Officer – ZEE5 (India & International).
The development was confirmed through a recent update on Banerjee’s LinkedIn profile, where she expressed her excitement about joining the ZEE5 leadership team. With a career spanning over 18 years in the Indian entertainment industry, Banerjee brings with her a wealth of experience in content development and strategic programming across television and digital platforms.
Prior to this, Banerjee held the position of Vice President, Content at Star India, where she played an instrumental role in launching Star Jalsha and Hotstar. Her contributions to shaping content narratives for Bengali audiences—both on traditional TV and OTT—have been widely acknowledged in the media industry. At Star, she was also actively involved in curating regional storytelling formats that resonated with a wide spectrum of viewers.
Welcoming Banerjee to the team, Mansi Shrivastav highlighted her “creative acumen and strategic vision” as essential strengths that align with ZEE5’s broader objective of expanding its regional footprint. She emphasized that Banerjee’s experience and deep understanding of the Bengali audience will be crucial in scaling ZEE5’s presence in the East Indian market.
Reacting to the appointment, Banerjee noted that she was particularly thrilled to be part of a platform that is steadily pushing the boundaries of regional storytelling. “ZEE5’s focus on innovation and strong regional engagement is something I deeply relate to. I’m looking forward to this new chapter and to collaborating with a team that is passionate about shaping quality content for the Bangla audience,” she shared.
ZEE5, one of India’s leading homegrown OTT platforms, has consistently invested in building a strong regional content library, and this appointment further reinforces its strategic intent. With Banerjee at the helm of the Bangla vertical, the platform is expected to roll out a robust line-up of new originals, series, and films that aim to strengthen its connect with viewers in West Bengal and Bengali-speaking audiences globally.
