Amazon MX Player’s reality series ‘Rise and Fall’ has emerged as one of India’s biggest digital entertainment successes, setting new benchmarks in viewership, social media engagement and audience participation, the streamer said yesterday.
Featuring 15 well-known personalities, including Pawan Singh, Dhanashree Verma, Kiku Sharda, Aarush Bhola, Anaya Bangar and Kubbra Sait, the 42-day competition combined strategy, power dynamics and survival challenges. The show was hosted by entrepreneur Ashneer Grover.
According to the OTT platform, ‘Rise and Fall’ garnered over 500 million views on Amazon MX Player, ranked among the top OTT reality shows for six consecutive weeks, and received more than 11 million public votes. Actor Arjun Bijlani emerged as the winner, a PTI report from Mumbai stated yesterday.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from Amazon MX Player, ‘Rise & Fall’ premiered on September 6, ran for 42 days with new episodes daily. While the show streams for free on Amazon MX Player (available through the MX Player app on mobile and connected TVs, on the Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, and Airtel Xtreme), it was also aired on Sony Entertainment Television.
The show has been licensed through All3Media International and was originally created by Studio Lambert in the UK. However, the Indian version gives the international unscripted format a uniquely Indian flavour.
Speaking about the show, Grover was quoted in the Amazon MX Player media statement as saying that the show was amongst the “most captivating reality show concepts worldwide”. He added: “Being a follower of reality shows, I think the division of contestants into haves and have nots brings a never experienced before dimension to reality shows in India. What excites me the most is the show’s unpredictability, where power flips in seconds and no one can guess who’ll be on top tomorrow.”
The show is produced by Banijay Asia, with the opulent set designed by National Award-winning art director Omung Kumar.
The show attracted significant attention from celebrities and content creators, with personalities such as John Abraham, Pankaj Tripathi, Riteish Deshmukh, Ishan Kishan, Samay Raina, Elvish Yadav, Uorfi Javed, and Kusha Kapila joining conversations about the show and supporting their favourite contestants.
Karan Bedi, Director & Head at Amazon MX Player, said in a statement, “The success and cultural impact of ‘Rise & Fall’ has been phenomenal. From breaking viewership records to igniting massive social conversations and advertiser enthusiasm, the show has demonstrated how entertainment and brand storytelling can powerfully converge. The momentum we’ve seen in just the first season sets a precedent for what reality TV can achieve on India’s leading OTT service.”
