Prime Video has released a new trailer for its upcoming live-action series ‘Spider-Noir’, starring Nicolas Cage in his first television lead role. The highly anticipated Marvel-inspired series is set to premiere globally on May 27, 2026, across more than 240 countries and territories, offering viewers a unique choice between two distinct viewing formats.
According to a Prime Video press release, audiences will be able to watch the series in either ‘Authentic Black & White’ or ‘True-Hue Full Color.’ The dual-format release is designed to enhance the show’s noir-inspired aesthetic while allowing viewers to choose the experience that best suits their preferences.
Based on Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man Noir’ comic series, ‘Spider-Noir’ follows the story of Ben Reilly, played by Nicolas Cage, a seasoned private investigator navigating the dark streets of 1930s New York. Haunted by a personal tragedy and burdened by the weight of his past, Reilly is forced to confront his former life as the city’s masked superhero. The series blends detective noir storytelling with superhero action, creating a darker and more mature take on the Spider-Man universe.
The project marks Cage’s return to the ‘Spider-Man Noir’ character after voicing the fan-favourite version of the hero in the animated film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. This time, however, the actor steps into the role in a live-action adaptation that aims to bring the comic’s gritty atmosphere to the screen.
Joining Cage is a notable ensemble cast featuring Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Abraham Popoola, Karen Rodriguez, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson. The series also includes guest appearances from actors such as Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Amanda Schull, Amy Aquino, and Andrew Robinson, among others.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television for MGM+ and Prime Video, the series is backed by an experienced creative team. Emmy Award-winning director Harry Bradbeer, known for ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Killing Eve’, directed and executive produced the first two episodes. The show is co-created and executive produced by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who also serve as co-showrunners.
The series has been developed in collaboration with the creative minds behind the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. All three are attached as executive producers, alongside Aditya Sood, Dan Shear, Pavlina Hatoupis, and Nicolas Cage himself.
With its period setting, noir-inspired visual style and an unconventional superhero narrative, Spider-Noir is shaping up to be one of Prime Video’s most distinctive original series releases of the year. The option to switch between black-and-white and colour versions further adds to the show’s appeal, offering audiences a chance to experience the story through two different visual lenses when it premieres later this month.
