Prime Video has officially announced that actors Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla, and Adam Young have joined the cast of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ for its upcoming third season.
The hit fantasy epic, based on the legendary J.R.R. Tolkien universe, recently kicked off production at Shepperton Studios in the UK, which now serves as the series’ new production home.
Canadian-born British actor Andrew Richardson will appear as a series regular, while Zubin Varla and Adam Young are joining in recurring roles. With over 170 million viewers globally, ‘The Rings of Power’ remains one of Prime Video’s most-watched series and a major contributor to new Prime membership subscriptions.
Richardson, a rising star in British theatre, earned acclaim for his performance as Sky Masterson in ‘Guys & Dolls’ at the Bridge Theatre in London. His talent has already brought him an Emerging Talent nomination at the 2023 Evening Standard Theatre Awards and an Ian Charleson nomination in 2025 for standout performances in ‘Uncle Vanya’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Richardson is also set to appear in Peacock’s upcoming series Ponies, alongside Emilia Clarke.
Award-winning stage and screen actor Zubin Varla, a graduate of London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, joins the ensemble after a stellar run in musicals and plays across the UK. He won the 2023 Olivier Award for his role in ‘Tammy Faye’ and earned further nominations for A Little Life and Fun Home. His screen credits include Disney+’s ‘Andor, Strike Back’, ‘Silent Witness’, and the upcoming Netflix series ‘Hostage’.
Meanwhile, Adam Young brings a varied background in film and television, best known for his chilling performance in ‘Don’t Breathe 2’. A Mountview-trained actor, Young has appeared in titles such as ‘Masters of the Air’, ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’, ‘Sex Education’, and ‘EastEnders’. His stage work spans productions like ‘Redlands’ at Chichester Festival Theatre and ‘The Duchess of Malfi’ at The Globe.
The fantasy series continues to receive strong critical and audience response, with both Seasons One and Two certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Season One remains Prime Video’s biggest series debut, while Season Two holds the record for the most-watched returning season by hours streamed.
Season Three is being helmed by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, alongside Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and director Charlotte Brändström. The production team also includes Matthew Penry-Davey as producer and Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee as co-producers.
All episodes from Seasons One and Two of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ are now available to stream exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories, in multiple languages.
