Prime Video has announced March 13 as the global premiere date for its upcoming Tamil Original comedy-drama series ‘Local Times’, unveiling a lively and heartfelt trailer that introduces audiences to the world of a struggling local weekly newspaper determined to survive in a rapidly changing digital news landscape.
According to a press release issued on Friday, the seven-episode series will premiere in India and across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The show will stream exclusively on Prime Video in Tamil with English subtitles, bringing a story rooted in everyday life and friendship to a global audience.
Developed by Anekdotes, ‘Local Times’ is directed by Naveen George Thomas and produced by Jithin Thorai under the banner of Fanboy Production. The series features a strong ensemble cast including Rishikanth, Abdool Lee, Maurish Dass, Adwitha Arumugam, R. Pandiarajan, Chinni Jayanth, Rini and Nandhitha Sreekumar in key roles. The story is written by Praveen Muthurangan and created by Abbhinav Kastura along with Praveen Muthurangan, Satwik Gade, Thomas Manuel and Visvaksen P.
Set against the backdrop of a small-town newsroom, the story follows four friends—Veera, Azhagu, Valli and Muthu—who are determined to keep alive ‘Namma Seidhi’, a once-respected regional newspaper owned by Veera’s grandfather. Operating with limited resources but bound by unwavering determination, the group navigates the challenges of keeping the publication relevant while confronting personal struggles, professional setbacks and a powerful rival who is determined to shut them down.
The trailer offers glimpses into the chaotic yet humorous journey of the group as they juggle their dreams, disagreements and daily struggles. Their misadventures, emotional clashes and small victories highlight a deeper theme of friendship and perseverance that forms the emotional backbone of the series.
Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, said the platform is proud to present a story that feels both rooted and universally relatable. While the series unfolds within the newsroom of a local weekly newspaper, he noted that its themes of friendship, resilience and ambition resonate beyond geographical boundaries. He added that the project reflects Prime Video’s continued commitment to distinctive regional storytelling that connects with audiences in India as well as around the world.
Producer Jithin Thorai said the idea behind ‘Local Times’ was to tell a simple and lighthearted story about ordinary people holding onto something they believe in. He noted that the setting of a local newspaper provided a familiar world, but the real driving force of the narrative lies in the friendship between the four central characters. Thorai added that the series captures moments that are messy, funny and real, and described the collaboration with Prime Video as a meaningful continuation of a partnership built on trust and a shared vision for character-driven storytelling.
Creators Abbhinav and Praveen said their intention from the beginning was to create a breezy and enjoyable show for Tamil audiences. They described ‘Local Times’ as a light-hearted watch set in everyday spaces—a small office filled with big dreams, bruised egos and friendships that endure despite constant chaos. According to them, the series balances drama and comedy while maintaining warmth and humour at its core.
Marking his directorial debut with the series, Naveen George Thomas said the story reflects the struggles of people who refuse to give up on their dreams and on those who stand by them. He noted that the characters are not traditional heroes but flawed individuals who deeply care about one another, and it is this emotional sincerity that shapes the narrative.
With its blend of humour, relatable characters and heartfelt storytelling, ‘Local Times’ aims to capture the everyday spirit of friendship and perseverance when it premieres on Prime Video on March 13.
