Acclaimed filmmaker Prakash Jha is set to return to the socio-political space with his upcoming thriller ‘Sankalp’, which will mark the OTT debut of veteran actor Nana Patekar.
The makers have unveiled the teaser of the series, which will soon stream for free on Amazon MX Player, offering audiences a glimpse into a gripping narrative centred on power, politics and institutional control.
According to a press release, the teaser was unveiled on Jha’s 74th birthday, signalling his return to a thematic territory that explores the intersections of authority, ideology and governance. The show delves into the mechanics of power, revenge, corruption and bureaucracy in contemporary India, presenting a layered story rooted in the country’s socio-political realities.
The series features Nana Patekar in the role of Ma’at Saab, a commanding master strategist whose influence drives the narrative. The teaser introduces his character as a powerful figure navigating ideological battles and political tensions. The story is anchored in the thematic framework of “Sanskaar, Satta and Samarpan,” reflecting the interplay between values, authority and devotion.
Joining Patekar is a strong ensemble cast that includes Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sanjay Kapoor, Neeraj Kabi, Kubra Sait and Kranti Prakash Jha. While Sanjay Kapoor and Neeraj Kabi appear as ideological rivals in the narrative, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub plays a devoted disciple whose loyalty to Ma’at Saab forms a crucial part of the story’s dramatic tension.
At its core, ‘Sankalp’ reimagines the historical dynamic of Chanakya and Chandragupta within a contemporary socio-political context. The series follows a master educator who builds influence through mentorship, institutional authority and strategic alliances, portraying a world where classrooms become arenas of power and bureaucratic structures shape the balance of control.
A presentation of Jio Studios and a PJP Films production, the series is produced by Jyoti Deshpande along with Dishaa Jhaa. Known for his sharp political storytelling, Prakash Jha directs the project, bringing his signature exploration of governance and societal fault lines to the digital space.
‘Sankalp’ will be available exclusively on Amazon MX Player and can be streamed free of cost across the MX Player app, Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV and Airtel Xstream, with the release date expected to be announced soon.
