Ahead of the global premiere of Prime Video’s upcoming series ‘The Pyramid Scheme’, actor Paramvir Singh Cheema has revealed that the story resonates with him on a personal level, as he once found himself caught in a similar money-making trap during his younger days.
The revelation comes as audiences eagerly await the series, which explores the world of pyramid marketing schemes, where dreams of quick wealth, success, and social status often mask a far more complicated reality. In the show, Cheema plays Goldy, an ambitious young man who is drawn into the promise of financial success through a company called Jumbolife, only to discover the hidden costs behind such opportunities.
Speaking about his own experience, Cheema admitted that he had once fallen prey to a similar scheme when he was in his early twenties. Recalling the incident, he shared that a neighbour had convinced him to invest money with the promise of easy returns.
“When you’re young and don’t have a lot of money, it all sounds very exciting. It felt like I could invest a little money and earn money without doing much. It seemed like a great idea at the time,” he said.
However, things did not go as expected. Cheema revealed that after investing, the person who introduced him to the scheme gradually stopped responding. Confused by the situation, he eventually discussed it with his father, who immediately recognised the problem.
“When I told my father about it, he just laughed and said, ‘Why are you getting yourself into these kinds of things?’ So yes, I’ve actually experienced this world firsthand,” the actor said.
The personal connection, according to Cheema, helped him better understand the mindset of Goldy, a character driven by ambition but often guided by emotion rather than reason. Describing his role, he said Goldy reacts intensely to situations and is constantly influenced by how others perceive him.
“Goldy is very reactive. He reacts to every situation and every emotion around him. What excited me most was that Goldy gave me the chance to play a side of myself that people haven’t seen much on screen,” he added.
Produced by The Viral Fever, ‘The Pyramid Scheme’ is created by Shreyansh Pandey and directed by Shreyansh Pandey and Ashish R Shukla. The series features an ensemble cast including Ranvir Shorey, Shekhar Suman, Aanjjan Srivastav, Alfia Jafry, Ashish Raghava, Akhilendra Mishra, Smita Bansal, Vijay Kumar, Indresh Malik, Ravi Bhel, Sushant Singh, Sonal Jha, and Sadanand Patil.
The series is set to premiere on Prime Video on June 5 and will be available in Hindi for audiences in India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
