Netflix said its football-themed slate of series, documentaries, talk shows and games rode the wave of the FIFA 2026 Men’s World Cup, driving strong audience engagement across its platform while setting the stage for its broadcast of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in the United States and Canada.

The streaming platform, in a note earlier this week, said interest in its football titles surged during the tournament, with weekly views in May rising by over 250 percent compared with weekly views recorded between January and April.

Its global football catalogue included ‘Brazil ’70: The Third Star’‘México 86’‘Colombia’s James’ and ‘Norway: The Dark Horse’, alongside the official FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition’ video game.

Netflix said views of ‘Ronaldinho: The One and Only’ rose 34 percent in Brazil in the hours following the football legend’s halftime appearance during the tournament.

It added that ‘Norway: The Dark Horse’ became the number one title in Norway in its debut week on the service and remained in the country’s Top 10 throughout the tournament.

The company also highlighted the performance of football talk show ‘The Rest Is Football’, hosted by Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, saying its daily tournament episodes reached the weekly Top 10 in the United Kingdom — the show has been renewed for the 2026–27 Premier League season now.

On the gaming front, Netflix said ‘FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition’ was its most-played game during the World Cup. Player activity remained elevated after the tournament, with engagement rising by more than 40 percent above normal levels following the final.

Brazil was the most-selected team in the game, followed by Mexico and Argentina, Netflix said. Brazilian players most often chose their home team, while players in the United States predominantly selected Argentina.

The company added that gamers generally upgraded hometown stars, including Vinícius Júnior in Brazil and Raúl Jiménez in Mexico, while players in the United States most frequently upgraded Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Netflix also said fans responded quickly to real-world match results, with players choosing winning national teams more than twice as often as before after their victories.

Looking ahead, Netflix said the FIFA Women’s World Cup will stream on the platform in the United States and Canada from June 24 to July 25, 2027, inviting fans to begin the countdown to the tournament.
