Netflix says viewers are increasingly turning to feel-good and comforting stories, especially shows set around small-town and rural American life.
In a note put out by the streamer today, Netflix highlighted titles such as ‘My Life with the Walter Boys’, ‘Ransom Canyon’ and ‘Little House on the Prairie’ as part of its growing lineup of heartland-focused entertainment.
The company said these shows are attracting audiences with stories centred on family, relationships, friendship and optimism.
Netflix said comfort and heartland titles, including ‘Virgin River’ and ‘Sweet Magnolias’, have collectively generated more than 1 billion views on the platform between 2023 and June 2026. More than 20 such titles have appeared in Netflix’s Global Top 10, with six reaching the number-one position.
‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ has spent a combined 18 weeks in the Global Top 10 across its first three seasons and has recorded more than 150 million views since 2023. ‘Little House on the Prairie’ has also reached the Top 10 in 85 countries.
Netflix also announced upcoming releases in this category. ‘Crew Girl’ will premiere on September 10, while ‘Guarding Stars’, starring Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki, will premiere globally on November 18.
The company said its comfort-focused lineup will continue to expand with new seasons of shows such as ‘Leanne’, ‘Virgin River’ and ‘Little House on the Prairie’, along with upcoming films.
