A spin-off show to hit legal drama ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ is currently in development at Netflix with actor Cobie Smulders as the lead, a PTI dispatch from Los Angeles said yesterday, quoting from a report in entertainment news outlet Deadline.

According to Deadline, the new series will focus on the character of Artemisia ‘Emi’ Finch, the half-sister of Mickey Haller, the lead protagonist of ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’, which is set to conclude with its upcoming fifth season.

The character of Mickey’s half-sister was introduced in season four and will continue to be a part of season five as well.

“In the upcoming fifth season, Mickey Haller’s (Rulfo) world is upended when the half-sister he never knew existed, Emi (Smulders), comes to him with a plea to help free a wrongfully convicted woman, a case he takes on, determined to set right an enormous miscarriage of justice,” the Deadline report stated.

Emi is an original character who is not in Michael Connelly’s books — the works of fiction on which ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ is based. Smulders, a Canadian actress, is also known for her works in ‘How I Met Your Mother’, a hit CBS sitcom created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, and Marvel Cinematic Universe films like ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, apart from movies like ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’, and ‘Safe Haven’.

The Deadline report highlighted that Netflix estimated the first four seasons of ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ contributed over $425 million to the California economy, employing over 4,300 cast and crew, and filmed at more than 50 different locations across Los Angeles.
