NBCUniversal, Roku broaden content partnership

NBCUniversal (NBCU) and Roku have unveiled an expanded partnership to provide users with a wider array of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) linear content on The Roku Channel.

This collaboration brings beloved programming from NBCU’s Global Distribution library to viewers, with additional channels set to launch later this year.

The newly introduced Global Distribution Studio Entertainment Channels on The Roku Channel include fan-favorite shows such as ‘Murder, She Wrote,’ featuring the Emmy®-winning mystery drama starring Angela Lansbury; ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ the hit series centered around the Ingalls family’s journey in the late 1800s; and ‘Universal Crime,’ a collection of renowned library series including ‘Columbo,’ ‘Kojak,’ ‘The Rockford Files,’ and more, promising mystery, suspense, and drama.

Joining the roster are channels like ‘Saved By The Bell,’ encompassing the entire comedy franchise that follows a close-knit group of friends navigating school and life’s adventures; ‘TNBC (Teen NBC),’ offering beloved series chronicling the ups and downs of growing up, like ‘Punky Brewster,’ ‘Major Dad,’ and ‘Hang Time’; and ‘Bad Girls Club,’ which captures the bold escapades of seven women determined to change their ways.

Later in the year, more channels will make their debut, including ‘Universal Action,’ featuring adrenaline-pumping series like ‘The A-Team,’ ‘Magnum P.I.’ starring Tom Selleck, and ‘Knight Rider’ starring David Hasselhoff. ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents,’ the Emmy®-winning anthology series presenting enigmatic mysteries crafted by the legendary filmmaker, will also join the lineup.

This expanded partnership builds upon NBCU’s existing FAST offerings on Roku, including channels like NBC News Now, Dateline 24/7, Today All Day, and NBC local and Telemundo regional news channels. The collaboration signifies the growing importance of FAST in the streaming landscape and solidifies NBCU’s commitment to providing its iconic content to viewers through diverse platforms.

Jennifer Vaux, VP of Content Acquisition & Programming for The Roku Channel, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “As FAST continues to gain incredible popularity in the marketplace, we’re excited to bring such terrific content options – including a strong roster of very well-known, fan-favorite programming – to our viewers.”

Bruce Casino, EVP of Sales & Distribution, U.S. for NBCUniversal Global Distribution, noted, “We are excited to expand upon our longstanding relationship with The Roku Channel and dive into the dramatically growing FAST sector by partnering with them to bring our beloved TV shows to their viewers.”

Audiences can conveniently access these channels through The Roku Channel’s Live TV Guide, available on Roku devices, Amazon Fire TVs, Samsung TVs, Google TV, Android TV OS devices, and online at TheRokuChannel.Roku.com.

Launched in 2017, The Roku Channel has gained significant traction, boasting a diverse lineup of over 80,000 free movies and programs along with more than 350 free live linear television channels. This partnership between NBCUniversal and Roku furthers the availability of quality entertainment options to audiences, shaping the future of streaming television.
