The cult classic ‘Shiva’, starring Nagarjuna Akkineni and Amala, is all set to return to theatres on November 14, presented in 4K with Dolby Atmos sound. Produced by Annapurna Studios and directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the 1989 blockbuster continues to enjoy an iconic status in Indian cinema.

The re-release announcement was made by actor Nagarjuna, whose production house Annapurna Studios backed the original film. Responding to Nagarjuna’s announcement, director Ram Gopal Varma added a quirky note on X, writing, “Hey @iamnagarjuna, It’s not a children’s film but coming back on Children’s Day will put children’s glee on a lot of faces.”

The film, based on Varma’s experiences as an engineering college student, is remembered for its gripping action sequences and memorable music. With a soundtrack composed by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography by S. Gopala Reddy, and editing by Sattibabu, Shiva became a path-breaking venture in Telugu cinema.

Apart from Nagarjuna and Amala, the movie also featured Raghuvaran, Tanikella Bharani, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Murali Mohan, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Chakravarthy, and Sai Chand, among others. More than three decades later, the film continues to be celebrated as a milestone that redefined storytelling in Indian cinema.
