The film, based on Varma’s experiences as an engineering college student, is remembered for its gripping action sequences and memorable music. With a soundtrack composed by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography by S. Gopala Reddy, and editing by Sattibabu, Shiva became a path-breaking venture in Telugu cinema.
Apart from Nagarjuna and Amala, the movie also featured Raghuvaran, Tanikella Bharani, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Murali Mohan, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Chakravarthy, and Sai Chand, among others.
