Amazon MX Player has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming investigative supernatural thriller ‘Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery’, a series inspired by the real-life experiences of India’s first paranormal investigator, Gaurav Tiwari.
Led by Karan Tacker in the titular role and Kalki Koechlin as Irene Venkat, the show brings together an ensemble cast featuring Danish Sood, Saloni Batra, Shubham Chaudhary and Nimisha Nair. Directed by Robbie Grewal, the series draws from documented case files and field investigations, promising a gripping narrative woven through mystery, suspense and paranormal intrigue.
According to a press release from the streamer, the trailer plunges viewers straight into Tiwari’s world, which is filled with unexplained disturbances, frantic calls, drained batteries and unsettling encounters that defined his investigative journey. It traces his shift from a pilot to a member of the Metaphysical Church in England, eventually becoming India’s first certified paranormal officer.
The show captures the skepticism he faced, the personal toll of navigating the unknown and the intense emotional weight that came with confronting forces beyond conventional understanding. Running parallel is the journey of Irene Venkat, portrayed by Koechlin, an author who initially dismisses the supernatural but finds herself drawn into Gaurav’s life following his sudden death at the age of 32.
The platform said the series marks a significant step into the horror–mystery genre for Amazon MX Player. Amogh Dusad, Director and Head of Content, noted that the show’s blend of biographical storytelling and supernatural tension reflects the platform’s effort to push creative boundaries and offer narratives that challenge expectations.
Both Tacker and Koechlin emphasised how deeply the roles affected them, with Tacker calling it one of the most intense performances of his career and Koechlin highlighting the emotional transformation of stepping into Irene’s perspective. The show is set to premiere on December 12.
