South Korean star Lee Byung-hun is set to headline a new martial arts action film, tentatively titled ‘Nambeol’, marking another major addition to his growing international filmography. The actor, widely recognised for his global success with ‘Squid Game’, will take on a role rooted in history and action.
According to a PTI report, the film is set in the early Joseon Dynasty and is backed by South Korea’s well-known production house Hive Media Corp. The project is currently in development and is being positioned as a high-intensity, hard-boiled martial arts drama.
The storyline follows nine warriors who embark on a dangerous mission to Tsushima Island, aiming to rescue Korean captives abducted by Japanese pirates. Set against a historical backdrop, the narrative combines action with themes of loyalty, survival, and resistance, promising a visually gripping and emotionally charged experience.
Lee Byung-hun’s involvement adds significant weight to the project, given his reputation for balancing intense performances with global appeal. With ‘Nambeol’, the focus appears to be on delivering a story that blends historical depth with large-scale action, further strengthening the global reach of Korean cinema.
