Marking a significant moment in India’s financial storytelling, JioHotstar and the Reserve Bank of India have launched a landmark five-part documentary series titled ‘RBI Unlocked: Beyond the Rupee’.
Produced by Chalkboard Entertainment, the series is now streaming on JioHotstar and coincides with the 90th anniversary of the central bank and offers viewers unprecedented access to one of India’s most influential institutions.
The docuseries is accompanied by a newly uploaded video on YouTube, giving audiences a compelling preview into the series’ depth, tone and visual narrative. This short video sets the stage for what unfolds in the full episodes on JioHotstar — a sweeping and intimate exploration of the RBI’s role in shaping India’s economic destiny and how it touches the lives of 1.4 billion citizens.
‘RBI Unlocked: Beyond the Rupee’ pulls back the curtain on the inner workings of the Reserve Bank in a way never seen before. From high-security gold vaults and note printing presses to behind-the-scenes glimpses of the bank’s war rooms during financial crises, the series paints a vivid and layered picture of how the RBI operates. The aim is not only to document but also to demystify and make the central bank’s otherwise complex decisions more accessible and relatable for the everyday Indian.
Through candid conversations with some of India’s top financial minds, the series adds credibility and depth to its storytelling. It features current and former Governors of the RBI, Secretaries from the Departments of Financial Services and Economic Affairs, as well as prominent economists and financial experts.
The five-episode arc also revisits some of the country’s most defining economic moments. From the dramatic 1991 gold pledging that changed India’s financial course, to the sweeping banking sector reforms and the RBI’s deft response during the COVID-19 pandemic using a “bio-bubble” operational model.
