JioHotstar has introduced a new way to discover content, teaming up with OpenAI to roll out Conversational Voice Discovery (CVD), a feature aimed at simplifying how users find shows and movies. Designed to reduce the need for typing and scrolling, the feature allows viewers to search using natural, spoken prompts based on mood, context, or situation.
According to a TOI report, the move marks a first-of-its-kind integration in the Indian streaming market, with the platform leveraging ChatGPT-powered capabilities to better understand user intent. Instead of relying on keyword-based searches, the system interprets conversational inputs such as “suggest a movie for when the parents visit” or “something dramatic but not too heavy,” offering a more intuitive and personalised discovery experience.
At the core of the feature is advanced natural language processing that enables the platform to respond to complex, human-like queries. The system also supports multilingual interactions, allowing users to seamlessly switch between Hindi and English within the same sentence. This makes it easier for a wider audience to interact with the platform in a way that feels natural, with prompts like “Koi light-hearted comedy dikhao” being understood instantly.
Beyond entertainment discovery, the feature extends into live sports, offering real-time insights during matches. Viewers can ask for updates such as the top scorer in a cricket game or request to replay key moments, adding an interactive layer to live streaming. This blend of content discovery and real-time engagement signals a shift towards more dynamic user experiences on streaming platforms.
The collaboration also goes beyond the app itself. In a two-way integration, users engaging with ChatGPT for entertainment queries can receive curated recommendations along with direct streaming links from JioHotstar’s catalogue. This positions the platform not just as a content destination, but as part of a broader AI-driven discovery ecosystem.
With this rollout, JioHotstar is clearly aiming to redefine how audiences interact with digital content, moving away from traditional browsing toward a more conversational, intent-driven experience that aligns with evolving viewer habits.
