The Jharkhand T20 Cricket League has officially opened franchise bidding for its inaugural season, marking a key step towards structuring and commercialising cricket in the state.

According to a press release, the league is owned by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association and managed by SJ Uplift. It is aligned with domestic T20 standards set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, with a focus on combining professional league structure with grassroots talent development.

The franchise bidding window is scheduled to open on May 7 at 10:00 AM and close on May 11 at 11:59pm. Interested parties will be required to submit their applications through the league’s official online portal, completing registration, KYC formalities, and financial submissions within the defined timeline.

The inaugural edition of the league will feature six district-based teams representing different regions of Jharkhand. The tournament format will include 24 league matches followed by two semi-finals and a final, taking the total number of matches to 27. Each franchise will be required to field a squad of at least 15 players, all drawn from registered cricketers within the state, reinforcing the league’s emphasis on promoting local talent.

Speaking on the development, JSCA president Ajay Nath Shahdeo said the league represents an important step in strengthening Jharkhand’s cricket ecosystem by creating opportunities for players while introducing a professional framework. Vice president Sanjay Pandey added that the initiative is designed not just as a tournament, but as a platform that integrates sporting excellence with investment prospects and infrastructure development.

Honorary secretary Saurabh Tiwary highlighted the league’s role in providing a competitive stage for emerging cricketers, while honorary joint secretary Shahbaz Nadeem noted that it would enhance exposure for local players and contribute to building a sustainable cricketing structure in the state.

Detailed bidding guidelines and eligibility criteria are available on the official platform, with franchise rights to be awarded following evaluation and agreement processes. As regional T20 leagues continue to expand across India, Jharkhand’s entry into the format reflects a broader effort to decentralise talent development and unlock new commercial avenues beyond established cricket centres.
