India Today Group has become the first media house in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to launch DeeperDive, a Generative AI answer engine developed by Taboola. The initiative marks a milestone in the Group’s commitment to harnessing cutting-edge technology to enhance reader engagement and content discovery.
DeeperDive is an industry-first AI tool that operates directly on publisher websites, allowing readers to ask questions and receive instant, AI-generated answers sourced from credible journalistic content. The system utilizes India Today Group’s vast digital archive to deliver real-time, contextual responses — offering users deeper insights into topics such as elections, current affairs, and socio-political developments, the company said in a press release.
The collaboration was announced by Taboola and India Today Group through an official release, positioning the Indian media conglomerate as a pioneer in integrating AI into open-web publishing. With this, the Group aims to redefine how readers interact with news, making information more conversational, intuitive, and personalised.
Kalli Purie, Vice Chairperson and Executive Editor-in-Chief of the India Today Group, said, “The India Today Group has always been at the forefront of every wave of change in Indian media. For us, pioneering journalism must always be future-ready — not just keeping pace but leading change. That leadership gives our editorial its credibility, and with AI we add the power to be faster, more connected, yet firmly rooted in facts. With DeeperDive, we will further strengthen India Today Group’s connection with its readers, offer them richer experiences, and unlock new AI frontiers of engagement and monetisation.”
Commenting on the partnership, Adam Singolda, CEO and Founder of Taboola, said, “India Today Group has already solidified its name as a must-visit destination in India both domestically and across the Indian diaspora. Their commitment to continually innovating and finding new ways for readers to enjoy their content is noteworthy. DeeperDive gives publishers the power to join the Gen AI revolution on their own terms, creating richer, more trusted experiences for users and unlocking search-like monetisation opportunities that were previously out of reach.”
DeeperDive leverages Taboola’s AI engine, powered by real-time data from over 600 million daily active users and 9,000 global publisher partners, to generate timely and contextually relevant responses. Unlike traditional AI systems trained on static datasets, it understands live reading patterns and trending topics to deliver answers that reflect what audiences care about right now.
The tool also offers new monetisation possibilities by embedding high-intent, contextually relevant ads within AI-generated results — a move expected to open search-like revenue streams for publishers while keeping readers within the trusted publisher ecosystem.
With over 50 years of legacy, the India Today Group continues to push boundaries in Indian journalism. From launching integrated newsrooms and digital-first formats to experimenting with AI-powered news anchors, the Group has consistently redefined storytelling. This latest initiative with Taboola reinforces its position as a global leader in technology-driven media innovation.
The partnership not only cements India Today Group’s status as a forward-thinking media brand but also underscores India’s growing influence in shaping the future of AI-led content experiences within the APAC region.
