India’s OTT audience reaches 664 million

India’s

India’s OTT audience grew by 11 percent in 2026 to reach 664.9 million, according to a The Economic Times report based on Ormax Media’s latest OTT Audience Report. Around 45 percent of India’s population now watches online video.

The Ormax report is based on a survey of 15,000 people from urban and rural areas, conducted in June and July 2026. It includes people who watched at least one online video, either free or paid, during the previous month.

Paid OTT subscriptions also increased by 16 percent to 172.6 million. These include subscriptions bought directly from OTT platforms as well as those offered through telecom plans and OTT aggregators.

Connected TV viewing saw a major rise during the year. The active connected TV audience reached 206.9 million, up 60 percent from 2025. OTT viewers in India now spend an average of 14.9 hours a week watching online videos. Micro-dramas grew 50 percent, followed by K-dramas at 48 percent and anime at 32 percent.

OTT viewing is also growing across Indian cities. The report found that 44 cities now have at least one million OTT viewers. The findings show that online video and connected TV continue to gain popularity among Indian viewers.
