The India Today Group (ITG) marked a landmark moment in its golden jubilee year as its leadership performed the ceremonial bell ringing at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, December 12, celebrating five decades of the organisation’s legacy in Indian media.
According to the press release, the ceremony was held at the Exchange’s Atrium in Mumbai, where India Today Group Chairman Aroon Purie, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director Kalli Purie, Group CEO Dinesh Bhatia, and NSE Managing Director & CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan together rang the iconic bell, symbolising the Group’s 50-year journey.
The honour held deep significance for the organisation. Reflecting on the occasion, Chairman Aroon Purie said, “A nation’s health depends upon its financial strength, and this strength has to be institutionalised. Institutions like the NSE build that strength and institutions like India Today safeguard it with truth, transparency and trust.”
Kalli Purie emphasised the Group’s long-standing editorial mission, noting that the bell-ringing represented both celebration and reaffirmation. “From the very first edition in Dec ’75, our mission was clear — to hold up a mirror to the nation, to pursue truth with courage and to document India as it was, as it is and as it aspires to be. Fifty years later, that mission has not only endured but thrived. Today journalism at India Today Group is digitally empowered, where storytelling transcends platforms, where credibility and candid constructive conversations, not clicks and TRPs, become the most valuable currency,” she said. She added that the organisation remains committed to asking difficult questions and standing firm in the face of power.
Over the past five decades, the India Today Group has chronicled India’s transformation through eleven prime ministers, fifteen governments and more than three hundred and fifty elections. It has reported from the frontlines of political upheavals, exposed corruption through coverage of twenty-five major scams, tracked insurgencies, and documented the nation’s rise on the global stage. The Group’s recent interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, carried globally, underscored its belief that institutions have relevance only when they evolve with purpose.
To commemorate its 50-year journey, ITG also announced the release of five commemorative films, each highlighting a different decade of its evolution. A special teaser and brand film celebrating the Group’s legacy were showcased at the event, along with the unveiling of a 50-year commemorative logo.
The ceremony concluded on a strong and celebratory note, marking not only the beginning of India Today Group’s golden jubilee year but also reaffirming its commitment to shaping informed and meaningful public discourse in the years ahead.
