Tamil ZEE5 is set to premiere ‘Hi’, a romantic drama starring Nayanthara and Kavin, on September 25. Directed by Vishnu Edavan, the film explores love, relationships, heartbreak and the challenges faced by young people while navigating emotions, family expectations and companionship.

In a press release issued on September 25, Tamil ZEE5 said the film is part of its growing slate of celebrated Tamil titles featuring popular stars. Following the response to ‘Jananayagan’, the platform is now bringing ‘Hi’ to its audiences as an unconventional yet heartwarming take on modern relationships.

The film brings together Nayanthara and Kavin in the lead, with the story focusing on two individuals dealing with very different challenges. Kavin plays a young man who continues to search for love despite experiencing heartbreak and rejection, while Nayanthara portrays a young woman dealing with family pressures and trying to escape an unwanted marriage.

As their paths cross, the two embark on a journey involving love, acceptance and self-discovery. The film also features veteran actors Radhika Sarathkumar, late actor K. Bhagyaraj and Prabhu in important roles, adding further depth to the narrative.

‘Hi’ also marks one of the final on-screen appearances of K. Bhagyaraj, the celebrated filmmaker, actor and writer. His presence makes the film a significant addition to his body of work and adds another layer of interest for Tamil cinema audiences.

The film looks at relationships through the experiences of its two central characters, focusing on their vulnerabilities, aspirations and the pressures that often accompany love and family expectations. The story attempts to present a contemporary relationship while retaining an emotional and accessible tone.

Speaking about the film, Lloyd C. Xavier, Business Head – Tamil, Telugu & Malayalam, ZEE5, said ‘Hi’ adds to the platform’s growing movie library with its ensemble cast, contemporary storyline and emotional appeal. He described the film as a modern relationship story that combines sincerity and humour while retaining a sense of warmth and simplicity.

For Nayanthara, the character offered an opportunity to portray a woman who is independent and resilient while also dealing with her own fears and emotional complexities. She said the film explores how two people with their own insecurities and differences come together in search of acceptance and companionship.

Nayanthara also credited director Vishnu Edavan for bringing sensitivity and honesty to the storytelling and said the film’s themes around relationships, family expectations and emotional conflicts make the story relatable to audiences.

Kavin said what attracted him to Hi was its portrayal of a male protagonist who is emotionally vulnerable and comfortable expressing his feelings. His character deals with love, rejection, self-doubt and the fear of not being enough while continuing to hope for a meaningful relationship.

The film combines romance, humour and emotion, with Jen Martin contributing the music and background score. The song ‘Rasagulla’ has also emerged as one of the film’s popular tracks, adding an energetic musical element to the narrative.

With Nayanthara and Kavin at the centre of the story, ‘Hi’ brings together romance, family dynamics and the emotional complexities of contemporary relationships. The film will be available to audiences exclusively on Tamil ZEE5 from September 25, 2026.
