Republic Media Network is witnessing a significant leadership change with Hersh Bhandari stepping down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after nearly eight years with the channel. His tenure saw the network expand its national footprint and strengthen operational efficiency, establishing Republic as a prominent player in the Indian news broadcasting space.
Bhandari’s exit comes at a time when Republic has been implementing a broader strategic realignment, introducing third-party partners to oversee sales operations and restructuring human resources and legal functions to enhance agility and efficiency. Industry observers note that these measures reflect the network’s efforts to stay competitive amid digital disruption, changing audience preferences, and regulatory challenges.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, Bhandari held leadership roles at India Today Television and spent six years with Times Network, contributing significantly to broadcast strategy and operations. At Republic, he was elevated to Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) in February 2022, overseeing national broadcast operations and spearheading expansion into regional markets. He was later appointed CEO, succeeding Vikas Khanchandani, who stepped down the same year.
His leadership was widely credited for streamlining operations, strengthening the network’s content and distribution strategies, and driving Republic’s ambitious growth across multiple regions and languages.
In a heartfelt note shared on LinkedIn, Bhandari reflected on his journey at Republic:, “Over the last 8 years at Republic TV, I’ve not only grown as a professional but also learnt some great entrepreneurial lessons. This journey has helped me in grooming myself to think strategically, learning the power of leadership, and drawing inspiration from colleagues every single day.”
He expressed gratitude to colleagues and mentors, including Arnab Goswami and the editorial and HR teams, noting the unwavering support of his immediate team as his “biggest strength.” Bhandari confirmed that he will take a short break to reinvigorate and prepare for the next chapter, urging readers to disregard any rumours about his future plans.
While Republic has not yet announced a successor, the network’s leadership transition comes as part of a broader effort to streamline internal functions and reinforce digital and broadcast strategies. Bhandari’s departure highlights both the challenges and opportunities the network faces in aligning growth ambitions with operational efficiency.
The coming months will be critical in determining how Republic reshapes its leadership framework and whether it can translate ongoing organisational changes into sustainable long-term growth.
