Grammy-winning composer Hans Zimmer has been roped in to create the original score for HBO’s much-awaited ‘Harry Potter’ television series, adding a new musical chapter to the globally celebrated wizarding franchise. The series, currently in production, is slated to premiere in 2027.
According to a UNI report, Zimmer will compose the music through his company Bleeding Fingers Music. HBO announced the development on Instagram with a nod to Albus Dumbledore, quoting, “Ah, music. A magic beyond all we do here!” The post further read, “We’re honoured to announce that Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers will compose a new score for HBO’s Harry Potter series. Coming soon to HBO Max.”
Bleeding Fingers Music, founded by Zimmer along with Russell Emanuel and Steven Kofsky, has built a reputation for crafting distinctive scores across film and television. For the ‘Harry Potter’ series, Zimmer will be joined by composers Karan Talve and Anze Rozman, with the team aiming to create a soundscape that immerses viewers into the magical universe while respecting the franchise’s rich musical legacy.
In a statement quoted by Variety, the composers said they were deeply aware of the responsibility that comes with working on a project of this scale. They noted that the music of ‘Harry Potter’ has long been a touchstone for composers worldwide and expressed their hope of bringing audiences closer to the magic while honouring what has come before.
Hans Zimmer is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of his generation. His body of work includes acclaimed films such as Inception, The Lion King, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down and Dune. Over the years, he has received multiple awards, including Academy Awards for The Lion King and Dune, further underscoring the weight his association brings to the series.
The upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ TV series has also revealed its principal cast, with Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout set to play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively. The ensemble cast also features John Lithgow, Nick Frost, Paapa Essiedu and Janet McTeer in key roles.
With Zimmer’s involvement, expectations around the series have risen further, as fans look forward to experiencing the world of Hogwarts through a fresh musical lens when the show debuts in 2027.
