The critically acclaimed and National Award-winning Gujarati film ‘Hellaro’ has been made available in Hindi for viewers across the country, expanding the reach of this poignant regional story.
The Hindi dubbed version is now streaming on ShemarooMe, enabling audiences unfamiliar with Gujarati cinema to experience the powerful narrative that captivated critics and viewers alike.
In a statement shared with IANS, lead actress Shraddha Dangar expressed her heartfelt sentiments about the film’s wider release. She said, “‘Hellaro’ has always been more than just a film—it’s a reflection of unheard voices and untold stories that exist in the quiet corners of our society. Bringing it to life meant building a world from the ground up, both emotionally and physically, in the heart of the desert.
“Now, with its Hindi release on ShemarooMe, I’m deeply moved that this story can reach a broader audience globally. I hope it stirs something in every viewer—questions, courage, and above all, a deeper understanding of what it means to be free.”
The film is notable for being the first Gujarati movie to win the National Award for Best Feature Film. Additionally, 13 lead actresses from the film were jointly honoured with a Special Jury Award, a rare and remarkable recognition of their collective performance.
Set against the backdrop of 1970s Kutch, the film explores the emotional and social lives of women confined by the rigid patriarchy of their village. Their monotonous existence is disrupted by the arrival of a stranger wielding a dhol (traditional drum), which awakens courage and a yearning for freedom within them.
Directed by Abhishek Shah, the film features an ensemble cast including Shraddha Dangar, Kaushambi Bhatt, Niilam Paanchal, Brinda Trivedi, and others.
