Punjabi cinema continues its winning streak on digital platforms with ‘Godday Godday Chaa 2’, one of the latest fun-filled entertainers now streaming on ZEE5.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a Punjabi village where weddings are nothing short of grand festivals, the film blends humour, tradition and social commentary, making it a wholesome family watch.
According to an ANI report, ‘Godday Godday Chaa 2’ is the sequel to the 2023 National Award-winning Punjabi film ‘Godday Godday Chaa’. While the first part revolved around women challenging an age-old tradition that barred them from joining the wedding procession or baraat, the sequel takes the story a step further, turning the spotlight on what happens after that victory.
In the new chapter, women in the village have already earned the right to participate in weddings, but they now want complete control over the celebrations. From planning events and leading dances to deciding rituals, they boldly take charge of everything that was traditionally handled by men. This sudden shift leaves the men feeling sidelined, triggering a playful yet chaotic battle of wits between the two sides. What follows is a series of clever tricks, comic misunderstandings and laugh-out-loud moments that keep the narrative light-hearted and engaging.
The film features a lively ensemble cast led by Ammy Virk, whose comic timing and screen presence add charm to the story. Tania plays the strong and sharp-witted female lead, emerging as the driving force behind the change.
The supporting cast includes Gitaj Bindrakhia, Gurjazz and Nikeet Dhillon, while seasoned actors such as Nirmal Rishi and Gurpreet Bhangu shine as village elders with their natural performances and humour. Actors like Rupinder Rupi, Sardar Sohi, Seema Kaushal, Mintu Kapa and Amrit Amby further enrich the village setting, making the characters feel rooted and real.
Music remains one of the film’s strongest elements. Packed with energetic bhangra numbers and celebratory tracks, the songs perfectly complement the wedding setting and add to the film’s festive mood. The background score enhances both the comic situations and emotional moments, keeping the narrative lively throughout.
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, who also helmed the first film, and written by Jagdeep Sidhu, ‘Godday Godday Chaa 2’ carries forward its message with warmth and humour. The film subtly highlights the idea that equality is about sharing joy and responsibility, not overpowering one another. It celebrates women’s empowerment while maintaining a balanced, non-preachy tone and preserving the essence of Punjabi culture.
Produced by Zee Studios and VH Entertainment, the film had its theatrical release on October 21, around Diwali, and enjoyed a strong run in cinemas before premiering on ZEE5 on December 19. With its clean humour, relatable characters and feel-good message, ‘Godday Godday Chaa 2’ has been receiving positive word-of-mouth and is being widely recommended as a must-watch for Punjabi movie lovers this festive season.
