The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) has unveiled a new national team representation framework for the Esports Nations Cup 2026 (ENC), marking a significant step towards formalising nation-based competition in global esports. As part of the announcement, the Foundation has opened applications for official National Team Partners across countries and territories, including India, ahead of the tournament’s debut in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 2026.
According to a press release issued by the EWCF, the Esports Nations Cup is designed to introduce structured and recurring national representation into the global esports calendar. The competition will complement the existing club-based Esports World Cup by allowing players to compete under their national flag, strengthening fan connection through national identity while maintaining competitive integrity aligned with global standards.
Under the new framework, selected National Team Partners will act as the official national counterparts for ENC 2026 in their respective regions. They will be responsible for building and representing national teams, coordinating coaches across game titles, and working closely with game publishers, clubs, and the EWCF. Beyond competition management, these partners will also shape national team identities through marketing, communication and community engagement initiatives, aimed at mobilising local fandom and strengthening grassroots connections.
While organisational responsibility will rest with the National Team Partners, the EWCF clarified that player eligibility and competitive rules will continue to be governed by ENC regulations and game partner-aligned processes. Each approved partner will nominate a National Team Manager, who will serve as the public face of the team and act as the primary liaison between the EWCF and the local esports ecosystem.
To support long-term growth, the Foundation also announced the creation of an Esports Nations Cup Development Fund, committing at least $20 million annually starting with ENC 2026. The fund will cover travel and logistics for participating national teams and support promotional and fan-facing initiatives such as training camps, exhibition matches, watch parties, national tours and appearances at major gaming and sporting events.
Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, said the initiative reflects EWCF’s broader vision for sustainable esports growth. “The Esports Nations Cup is a natural next step in our journey. By opening this application process, we are inviting trusted National Team Partners to help define how countries and territories are represented in esports, with clear roles and aligned governance that works for players, partners and fans,” he said.
Eligible applicants include esports organisations, clubs, agencies, NGOs, national esports and sports federations, government-mandated bodies, content creators and experienced esports professionals with strong national ecosystem ties. Applications are open until January 31, 2026, and will be evaluated through a multi-stage process assessing governance standards, operational capability, community reach and alignment with game partner requirements.
The first set of approved National Team Partners is expected to be announced in early 2026. The Esports Nations Cup will be held every two years, with the inaugural edition hosted in Riyadh before transitioning to a rotating host city model, providing a stable and predictable structure for national team esports programmes worldwide.
