Disney has partnered with creator and entrepreneur Jon Youshaei to launch ‘Created in LA’, a two-day event aimed at bringing together leading digital creators, storytellers and entertainment executives to explore the future of storytelling.
The event will be held on September 17-18 across Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre and the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, Disney said in a statement.
The company said the inaugural event will begin with the first-ever red carpet premiere of creator-produced videos at the century-old El Capitan Theatre, followed by a day of talks, performances and discussions featuring prominent voices from the creator economy and Hollywood at the Walt Disney Studios lot.
Disney said the event is designed to encourage collaboration and examine the evolving landscape of entertainment.
According to Disney Chief Marketing and Brand Officer Asad Ayaz, the company has always been a home for great storytellers and that today’s creators are building communities and connecting with audiences across generations. He said Disney looked forward to welcoming them for ‘Created in LA’.
The event has been conceived and will be hosted by Jon Youshaei, a former YouTube and Instagram executive who has since built an audience of more than one million followers and generated over 400 million views through his creator-focused content.
Youshaei said opening Disney’s iconic venues to creators reflected how Hollywood and the creator economy were coming closer together.
“This is historic. After 100 years, it’s surreal to see Disney open two of its most iconic venues — the El Capitan Theatre and the Walt Disney Studios lot — to creators, especially now that the worlds of Hollywood and creators are growing closer than ever,” said Youshaei.
Disney said the event builds on its long-standing storytelling legacy by creating a forum where creators can exchange ideas, forge collaborations and help shape the future of content.
It noted that the El Capitan Theatre has hosted premieres of films including ‘The Lion King’ and ‘The Avengers’, while the Walt Disney Studios lot has been home to productions such as ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’.
Attendance will be by application— the details are available on Disney’s website — with participants selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
