The Esports Foundation has named Lee ‘Faker’ Sang hyeok as the Game Ambassador for the Esports World Cup (EWC) and the Esports Nations Cup until 2028.
Faker is widely regarded as one of the greatest League of Legends players in the world and one of the biggest names in esports.
With this new role, Faker joins football star Cristiano Ronaldo, the Foundation’s Global Ambassador, and chess world champion Magnus Carlsen, who is also a Game Ambassador.
He will represent esports players at the Foundation’s international events, media activities, and player focused initiatives, a press release from Esports Foundation stated.
Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, said in a statement that Faker has inspired millions of gamers through his success, dedication, and long career. He added that Faker’s experience will help strengthen the voice of esports players and support the future growth of competitive gaming.
Faker said he is proud to become a Game Ambassador while continuing to play for T1. He said he wants to inspire young gamers around the world to work hard, stay confident, and believe that esports can create great opportunities.
Faker has enjoyed an outstanding career with T1. He is a six time League of Legends World Champion, a two time MSI champion, a ten time domestic league champion, and also won the Esports World Cup 2024. He will compete with T1 at this year’s Esports World Cup as he looks to win the title once again.
Apart from his achievements in esports, Faker has also received national recognition in South Korea. In 2026, he became the first esports athlete to receive the Blue Dragon Medal, the country’s highest sporting honour, for his contribution to Korean sports and culture.
The Esports Foundation said Faker’s appointment reflects the growing global popularity of esports and the important role players have in shaping the future of the industry.
