COLORS, one of India’s leading Hindi general entertainment channels, is celebrating 17 glorious years of redefining television storytelling. Launched in 2008 by Viacom18, the channel emerged as a disruptor in the Indian GEC (General Entertainment Channel) space, known for its bold content choices, social dramas, and memorable characters that have resonated with viewers across generations.
Over the years, COLORS has become a household name with a wide spectrum of content—from gripping family dramas and high-stakes reality shows to thought-provoking fiction rooted in India’s diverse social fabric. From early landmark shows like Balika Vadhu, which sparked national conversations on child marriage, to crowd-favourite reality franchises like ‘Bigg Boss’, ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’, and ‘Dance Deewane’, the channel has continually pushed the envelope in both format and narrative.
The channel issued a commemorative statement on its 17th anniversary, reflecting on its journey of innovation and cultural impact. “Seventeen years ago, we set out with a vision to create stories that matter—stories that challenge, entertain, and connect. COLORS has always been more than just a channel; it’s been a mirror to society, a catalyst for dialogue, and a platform for talent,” the note read.
With shows that have addressed themes like gender equality, domestic violence, caste discrimination, and mental health, COLORS has consistently aimed to blend entertainment with purpose. Its primetime lineup has evolved over the years to reflect changing viewer preferences while retaining a commitment to storytelling that moves the audience.
Nina Elavia Jaipuria, Head of Hindi Mass Entertainment & Kids TV Network at Viacom18, remarked, “At COLORS, we’ve always believed in the power of content to influence and inspire. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re grateful to our viewers, creative partners, and artists who’ve made this journey so special. The road ahead is equally exciting as we continue to evolve with our audience and the ever-dynamic world of entertainment.”
In the digital age, COLORS has expanded its presence beyond television, with strong digital engagement through platforms like JioCinema, Voot, and social media, ensuring its content reaches audiences across screens and regions.
As it steps into its 18th year, COLORS remains committed to exploring new genres, formats, and storytelling languages, staying true to its core philosophy—’Rishton ke rang, COLORS ke sang.’
