Chaupal, an OTT platform showcasing Punjabi-language content, is all set to kick off the festive season with laughter as it announces the premiere of ‘Sarbala Ji’, a comedy of errors, streaming exclusively from October 2. The film promises a rollicking ride through the chaos of a Punjabi wedding, where traditions collide with pranks and mischief.
The film stars Punjabi superstars Gippy Grewal as the mischievous Sucha and Ammy Virk as the shy groom-to-be Gajjan. Nimrat Khaira and Sargun Mehta add glamour, wit and comic timing, making the wedding drama a full-fledged laugh riot.
In Punjabi culture, the sarbala, or the groom’s page boy, plays a minor but charming role in wedding ceremonies. In ‘Sarbala Ji’, however, this role spins into a whirlwind of confusion when Sucha convinces his cousin Gajjan to make him the sarbala, turning the mandap into a stage for runaway animals, misplaced rituals and relatives unsure whether to laugh or cry.
The film cleverly twists big-fat Punjabi wedding tropes — from energetic dhol beats to dance-offs — while delivering both heart and hilarity. Family feuds, pranks, and surprises tumble one after another, ensuring non-stop laughter.
Chaupal has positioned ‘Sarbala Ji’ as the ultimate family entertainer of the festive season. Whether viewers are veterans of numerous Punjabi weddings or seeing one on screen for the first time, the film promises to bring the baraat straight to living rooms, without the traffic jams or wedding chaos.
